In Vitro Fertilization

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a highly complex fertility treatment, where through the application of hormones according to each case, the ovaries are stimulated to obtain the highest quantity and best quality of eggs (oocytes) for approximately 11-14 days to subsequently capture them through the puncture of the ovaries and deposit them along with the sperm in an embryo culture medium for the infection to take place.

The embryos are observed and cultured in our IVF laboratory, where they are sorted for quality and introduced into the patient’s uterus once they reach their 5th day of development known as the blastocyst stage.
All procedures required during an IVF cycle, including ovarian stimulation and monitoring are generally performed in Tijuana, Baja California for convenience and proximity to our patients, with respect to egg retrieval, and embryo transfer, they are performed on site at the center of your preference in Tijuana, Guadalajara and Cancun.

What are the steps of the IVF process?

IVF treatments consist of the following steps:

  • Initial consultation, study and preparation prior to the establishment of ovarian stimulation treatment (hormones).
  • Controlled ovarian hyperstimulation with monitoring visits (stimulation days 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12)
  • Oocyte maturation (on day 11-12 with Ovidrel or Lupron)
  • Transvaginal Egg Retrieval and IVF Laboratory Daily embryo culture and evaluation
  • Embryo transfer (inserting embryos into the uterus for implantation)
  • Pregnancy Test (10 days after embryo transfer)

Our fertility specialists will provide you with the highest quality fertility care and guidance prior to undergoing IVF treatment.

What are the risks with in vitro fertilization (IVF)?

The medications and procedures necessary for in vitro fertilization (IVF) are rarely associated with complications. However, as with all medical treatments, there are potential problems that can occur. Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome can occur whenever women use ovarian stimulation medications.

IVF cycles need some adjustment in ovarian stimulation and postponing embryo transfer is one of the different strategies to effectively prevent ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.

What are the risks with IVF and a healthy pregnancy?

There is no increased risk of birth defects in children conceived through IVF. The rate of pregnancy loss or miscarriage (about 20 percent) is similar to that of the general population and is related to the age of the female partner. The risk of ectopic (tubal) pregnancy is about 2 percent. The risk of multiple gestation.
